Children ages 7 and 8 (born in 2018 and 2017) participate in the Riel Junior Soccer League with children & families from other community centres nearby.
When and where does all the fun happen?
The season starts the first week of May (weather permitting) and wraps up by the third week of June. Games can be scheduled at any of the following locations: Victor Wyatt School, Windsor School, Norwood CC, or St. Vital Park. (note: No game Monday of May long weekend.)
How much does this cost?
$105 per player.
The Tim Horton sponsorship provides each child with a soccer ball and a Timbits team jersey to borrow.
What other equipment will my child need?
Your child needs shin guards, long soccer socks, running shoes, and a water bottle.
IMPORTANT: Your child needs to wear long, soccer socks OVER the shin guards for their safety and to prevent injuring other players. * Soccer trick: If your child says shin guards are uncomfortable against their skin, make a pair of thin tubes to wear UNDER shin guards by cutting the foot off of tights, old leggings, or knee-high socks.
Coaches and Parents:
Each team is led by 2 or more parent volunteer coaches. We depend on parent volunteers to make the season successful for children. Please sign up to help coach. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to be involved in your child’s activities and have FUN as a family.
Each evening begins with 30 minutes of skills games followed by fun game with another team.
Coaches remain on the field to guide players during games. Line changes allow for rest and water breaks.
PARENTS are encouraged to help out on the field as requested by the coaches. This is a
recommendation from Canada Soccer’s Stage 2 - FUNdamentals guidelines for 7 to 8-year-olds.
This means that parents assist coaches by:
helping children follow their coach’s directions
watching children during sideline breaks
discussing good sportsmanship and managing behaviours
chasing stray balls and cheering respectfully
If you have any questions, please call Greendell’s office during the day at 204-257-6883 or email: office.gpcc@mymts.net
We hope you’re looking forward to another fun soccer season!
